Tax Help Colorado is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our staff and volunteers. We are closely monitoring the current situation regarding COVID-19, otherwise known as the Coronavirus. As you may have expected, all of our tax sites have already made the decision to close for the foreseeable future because of these growing concerns.
We know many taxpayers rely on the free tax sites that we and other VITA programs provide and want to make you aware of other free tax preparation options for families.
We encourage you to utilize the “remote” drop off service through GetYourRefund.org. A new program by Code for America in partnership with VITA sites like Tax Help Colorado is available to households making $66,000 or less. This new service allows IRS-certified volunteers to prepare your returns remotely after you complete an online intake process, verify your identity through ID.me and upload your documents using your smartphone.
How It Works

- You’ll then chat with an IRS-Certified tax volunteer either via phone or email.
- Our IRS-Certified team will then prepare and review your Federal and State tax returns.
- We’ll help you file your tax returns electronically (if you want) and walk you through options on how to receive your tax refund or pay taxes owed.
- Check the status of your federal tax return and Colorado state return.

In Person Tax Sites
As of now, we do not know when it will be safe for us to open our doors to in person tax sites but we plan to do so as soon as possible. If you know that you are due a refund, there is no obligation to file by April 15th and you are safe to wait for our tax sites to reopen.
